Dean Smith will be eagerly awaiting his first crack at management in the Premier League next year, and it doesn’t get much better than doing it for your boyhood club.
The Villans are back in the big time and are bound to be linked with several players in the coming weeks as they look to reshape their squad for their return.
According to the Sun, then, Smith is ready to use his connections and go back to former club Brentford to try and snap up Josh McEachran on a free transfer.
The midfielder is out of contract this summer and will be available to move on for no fee, with Smith working with him for a decent spell before getting the Aston Villa call.
A midfielder who is good on the ball and brings good energy to the middle of the park, he may help Smith bring his style to the top flight.
This is a signing that could make real sense.
It’s a cheap fee, the pair know each other well and Villa ideally want to bring in some fresh legs to their deeper midfield role.
McEachran is a smart player, too, so this has plenty going for it already.
