Aston Villa will face league leaders Norwich City on Sunday as they gear up for their play-off campaign.

Dean Smith's side are currently on a 12-game unbeaten streak after showing impressive form in the second half of the season, but they now face a tough test to keep this run alive ahead of the play-offs.

The Midlands side have produced their successes despite contending with some injury trouble in recent weeks, and Smith has now clarified the squad's situation ahead of Sunday's match.

Jed Steer and Jonathan Kodjia are available for selection after minor injury concerns, while Lovre Kalinic and Keinan Davis are now back in contention after longer lay-offs.

Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham, Kortney Hause and James Chester are back in training which means they all could play a part in the play-offs.

It is particularly vital that Abraham is back in the mix by mid-May, as his goals have integral to Villa's success. It is unlikely Hause and Chester will be risked on Sunday, with Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe already looking a solid partnership at the base of defence.

Smith also confirmed that midfield titan John McGinn will be rested for Sunday's clash, with the Scottish international currently sitting ominously on 14 yellow cards and on the verge of suspension.

The Verdict

This will be viewed as an overall positive update by Villa fans.

It is particularly encouraging that Abraham, Chester and Hause are all back in training, as this gives them a good chance of being available for the play-offs.

Smith has also made a sensible choice in leaving McGinn out. He is an important cog in this Villa side, but there is clearly no point in risking him against Norwich.
