Dean Smith has offered a fitness update on his Norwich City side ahead of their clash against Watford this weekend.

The Canaries received a boost ahead of Saturday’s fixture, with Sam Byram and Todd Cantwell set to be available for selection.

Byram went off during half time of the team’s recent defeat against Preston North End, but there are no long-term fitness concerns as a result.

The 29-year old trained with the first team on Thursday and has made himself available for selection.

Cantwell has also been training with the team ahead of their visit to Vicarage Road.

Isaac Hayden has also been part of the side’s preparations for this weekend and could be in line for his debut for the club having been injured since pre-season.

"Sam has trained, yesterday and today,” said Smith, via the club’s official website.

“He'll make himself available for selection.

“Todd is available for selection. He's trained well.

“Isaac has trained as well. We're getting our injured players back which is great."

Smith’s side come into the game 2nd in the Championship table despite their defeat at home to the Lilywhites last time out.

The team is level on points with both Sheffield United and QPR at the top of the standings as they look to set the pace in this year’s promotion chase.

Meanwhile, Watford have suffered a dip in form in recent weeks, with the Hornets having only won one of their last six league games.

The Verdict

At such a busy period of the season, having players returning from injury will be a huge boost for Smith.

In particular, the return of Hayden will be a big positive for the team, with a lot of expectation surrounding the Newcastle United loanee.

Byram has been a useful player for Smith so far this campaign, so having him available for selection alongside Cantwell is also good news ahead of a difficult game this weekend.

Norwich will be keen to make the most of any potential slip-ups from their rivals, with the Canaries set to compete later in the day than the Blades or Rangers.
