Dean Smith has made it very clear that he has no plans to sell winger Albert Adomah in the January transfer window.

The 30-year old had looked set to leave Villa Park in the summer, with yesterday's opponents Middlesbrough at the top of the queue, but he's enjoying a resurgence under new boss Dean Smith.

He sat out their 3-0 win with an ankle injury, but is contracted to the club until 2020 and Smith made it very clear he intends to keep the former Barnet man in his squad.

He issued a sharp rebuke when quizzed on his plans for Adomah in the transfer window.

"I have no thoughts for Albert in January," he is reported as saying by Birmingham Live. "He is an Aston Villa player and I am enjoying working with him."

"He is one of the nicest fellows I have worked with and he showed some quality last Sunday against Birmingham City before being unfortunately brought down."

"He has been a great lad since I have been here and put in consistent performances. With him coming back, along with the likes of Anwar El Ghazi and Jonathan Kodjia, we have some real firepower."

Villa were in irresistible form as they easily swept aside promotion rivals Middlesbrough yesterday, winning 3-0 at the Riverside. The result leaves them three points outside the top six and looking towards an assault on the play off places over the festive period.

The Verdict

It's great to hear that he wants to keep Adomah at the club, he looked like being frozen out under Steve Bruce but has proven the former boss wrong.

His current injury has stopped his progress, for now, but he's likely to be a key player for Villa in their hunt for a Premier League return.
