Norwich City manager Dean Smith has suggested he could recall striker Jordan Hugill from his loan spell with West Brom, and look to send him elsewhere.

Hugill joinned West Brom on a season-long loan from Norwich back in the summer transfer window, but has yet to really make an impact at The Hawthorns.

The 29-year-old has scored just once in 20 appearances for the Baggies, and has only started two games for Valerien Ismael's side since the end of October.

As a result, it now seems as though Smith - who was appointed as Norwich manager after Hugill had left on loan - is now considering a change in the striker's situation in the final few days of the January window.

Speaking about the situation surrounding Hugill, the Canaries boss was quoted by the Eastern Daily Press as saying: “Potentially (things are) changing for Jordan. I had a chat with him to just get his feelings on where he was and how he was at the time. He's a little bit frustrated because he's not been playing at West Brom.

"He's been in and out of the team, getting some minutes, and in and out of squad as well. When players go out on loan, they're going out to play football games and get the minutes they require. Obviously at the moment, he's not so I said it's something that we'll look at.”

Having joined Norwich in 2020, Hugill has scored five goals in 34 appearances for the East Anglian club, and has 18 months remaining on his contract, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The Verdict

It would seem to make sense for Norwich to cut short Hugill's loan with West Brom and loan him out elsewhere.

Things have not worked out for Hugill at The Hawthorns, with the striker not getting the game time he needs, and that unlikely to change following the big money arrival of Daryl Dike.

As a result, cutting short this deal could be best for the striker, so he can get the game time he wants with another club, which could help him rediscover the form he has been lacking recently.

Considering such a move could also clear some space in West Brom's wage budget, boosting their chances of making other signings, meaning this could be a decision that works for them as well.
