Dean Smith and John Terry were left impressed with the future stars of Aston Villa after watching the U23s see off Sunderland.
The young Villa side kept pace with the promotion challenged in the Premier League 2 after earning three points from the bottom-of-the-table Black Cats.
Smith and Terry were on hand to watch the U23s at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Smith has already invited some of Villa’s young stars to train with the first team since succeeding Steve Bruce in October, according to the Birmingham Mail, with Jacob Ramsey and Dominic Revan recently named in senior squads.
And what the first-team duo saw was a Villa side dominate their counterparts from start to finish before scoring the all-important winner 15 minutes from time.
If young players continue to impress, then Smith and Terry will have no doubts in their mind when offering the U23 players a chance to train with the first team and impress when called upon.
It’s positive that the pair were watching the future of the club and investing their time in the club’s youth players.
They are the lifeblood of the club and Smith would have been impressed with what he saw.
Having already had some of the U23s in the senior squad this season, there is a clear pathway being demonstrated by the Villa boss for progression through the ranks at the club.
It’s all positive again for the Championship side, and the future certainly looks bright.
