MK Dons defender Dean Lewington yesterday celebrated his testimonial game with the club.

Lewington has extended his stay at MK Dons
Lewington was given a guard of honour as he entered the field for his testimonial.

The left-back has made 428 appearances with MK Dons and is now entering his tenth season with the League One side. Lewington is the only player at MK Dons who was part of the old Wimbledon side which relocated to the city back in 2003.

In that time MK Dons have been relegated from the Championship down to League Two and returned to League One. They have also won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2008.

The reformed AFC Wimbledon have won five promotions since Dean Lewington last played for them, reaching the Football League back in 2011.

MK Dons faced Nottingham Forest at stadium:MK yesterday to pay tribute to the loyal defender who has been a fixture of the team for a decade.

Ben Reeves scored the only goal as MK Dons saw off their Championship opponents on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to the club's official website, Lewington said of the day: “It was great and I'm really thankful for it, but it was a slightly strange feeling.

“It’s a lot of relief now. I’m thankful for the hard work but it helped that it was a good game and we played some good stuff.”

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson added: “It was perfect. I said to the players before the game, the reason why he is captain is because he’s got the Football Club at his heart, he respects everything about the Club and its heritage and he believes in where we want to go.

“I couldn’t ask for a better captain and I’m very fortunate to know him as a person as well. I thought the fans showed the respect they have for him too.”
