It was a Good Friday for Sheffield United in particular, who propelled themselves back into the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion places with just three games left to play this term.

The Blades' recent bid for promotion to the Premier League took a major blow last weekend, dropping points at home to Millwall just hours before Leeds' 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday later on in the afternoon.

But it was the Whites who slipped up at home this weekend, losing 2-1 to 10-men Wigan Athletic, allowing Chris Wilder's men to return to 2nd spot in the Championship table.

After an eventful Friday afternoon, Blades shot-stopper Dean Henderson recently took to Instagram to commend the "togetherness" in the United camp, as the race for automatic promotion heats up.

After losing their place in the top two last week, many would have backed Leeds to go all the way and win promotion to the Premier League ahead of what looked to be a winnable run-in.

But their defeat to Wigan at the weekend proves that anything can happen in the Championship, and whilst morale must have been low in the dressing room after conceding late on against Millwall, Wilder's men showed great character and togetherness to bounce back on Friday.

The Verdict

This season is continuing to amaze me, and it looks as if the race for promotion will go right down to the wire.

I fully expected Leeds to go all the way after they defeated Sheffield Wednesday last week, but they could well live to rue those missed chances in their 2-1 defeat to Wigan.

Ahead of clashes against Hull, Ipswich and Stoke, you would now back the Blades to finish 2nd - but this is the Championship, and anything can happen.
