Former England international Dean Ashton has stated that Brentford caught Hull feeling sorry for themselves in the victory at the KCOM Stadium.

The Bees managed to beat Grant McCann's Hull side comfortably scoring five goals away from home, as it turned into an embarrassing defeat for the home side.

The Tigers lost the fixture having just sold key winger Jarrod Bowen to Premier League side West Ham. He left the club a day before the clash with Brentford and Ashton feels that it had a direct effect on the performance of the Hull side on the day.

Ashton has expressed that Thomas Frank's side could have scored ten on the day, and that Hull were still feeling sorry for themselves after Bowen had departed on the eve of the fixture.

Speaking to EFL on Quest, Ashton said: "It could have been ten, let alone five. They caught Hull feeling sorry for themselves.

"It's an unbelievable fee for Jarrod Bowen and I think the fans understand that. They have recruited players as well and it makes sense for the club (to sell Bowen) based on where they are in the league."

The Verdict

It was a quite awful display from Hull, and they need to show a serious response next week when they travel to Reading.

The performance was very disappointing and it almost showed a lack of fight from the club, which is one of the first things you need to ensure that you pick up points.

McCann will be very worried looking at how his team performed and will insist that the side has in improvement over the next few weeks.

There's still enough weeks to be dragged into a relegation fight so the aim will be to get as many points as they possibly can and hope that they can stay in and around the top-half.
