Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has sparked speculation on Twitter, by suggesting that the club could be involved in up to five deals today.

In a cryptic message, the outspoken Chinese owner stated: ‘2 or 3 things will happen, maybe 4 or 5’, prompting speculation that Villa could be on the verge of tying up deals before the transfer window slams shut this evening.

The club have suffered a disappointing start to the new campaign, winning just one of their opening five fixtures, and manager Steve Bruce looks likely to be backed by his chairman in the final hours of the window.

Bruce has been extremely busy in the transfer market this summer, tying up deals for the likes of John Terry, Sam Johnstone, Josh Onomah and Chris Samba, but with Xia keen to see his side return to the Premier League, funds could be made available.

Bruce was told to sell before he buys earlier in the summer, and the departures of Premier League era players has provided the former Hull boss with the cash he needs to bolster his squad for a promotion push.

The Verdict: Tony Xia has become famous for his cryptic messages on Twitter, and his latest exchange may suggest that Villa will be busy in the market today.

The club have suffered a poor start to the year, and if Xia and Bruce are serious about launching a promotion push in what is an extremely competitive Championship, deals must be completed in the finals hours of the window.

Following Xia's message, who do you think your side should sign today, Villa fans?
