Tom Pearce is still expected to be handed a new deal by Leeds United, despite the defender entering the summer as the club’s only player not contracted ahead of next season.

Leeds have secured the future of every member of their current squad ahead of the summer, with Pearce the only player not yet contracted to the Whites ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The 20-year-old has broken onto the scene under Paul Heckingbottom in recent months, but has not yet been tied down to fresh terms at Elland Road.

Despite that, the Yorkshire Evening Post understand that Leeds will offer the left-back a new deal.

Pearce’s introduction to senior football has been an impressive one, with the defender making five starts towards the end of the Sky Bet Championship season.

The youngster’s first Leeds goal came in the 2-1 victory over Barnsley last month, with Pearce also helping his side to a rare clean sheet on Saturday, as Heckingbottom’s side beat QPR 2-0.

Along with a number of Leeds’ other youngsters, Pearce has been named as part of the travelling squad to head to Myanmar this week for two post-season friendlies.

The Verdict

Pearce has been excellent since breaking into the first-team at Elland Road, with the defender’s contribution a standout.

The 20-year-old is starting to look more comfortable every time he takes to the field and Leeds would be foolish not to tie him down to fresh terms.

A contract for such a talented youngster should’ve been sorted some time ago.
