Sheffield Wednesday left back Rhoys Wiggins is closing in on a shock move to Premier League Bournemouth, according to the Daily Echo.

The full-back has been out of favour at Hillsborough and has been told by manager Carlos Carvalhal he can find another club.

However, not many would have seen this move coming from Eddie Howe and his Premier League side. Howe confirmed this week he was in the market for squad additions, and it looks like Wiggins could be one who he swoops for.

Wiggins has had three spells with Howe at the Cherries before, signing from Norwich and Crystal Palace respectively, and helped the club stave off relegation to the conference in 2009, before helping them gain promotion to League One also.

Wiggins would provide cover for first choice left-back Charlie Daniels who has impressed so far in his first season in the Premier League.

Operating down the left hand side, he would seemingly slot straight in to the squad at Bournemouth under Howe, and would seemingly know he is there to provide cover as they look to survive at the first attempt during their inaugural season in the top flight.

Wiggins has made less than 10 appearances for the Owls after enjoying a better spell at Charlton previously. He will be hoping to emulate his stay at the Valley more than his brief stint with the Yorkshire club, should he sign for The Cherries.

Wednesday currently sit seventh in the Championship as they seek a return to the top flight but Wiggins has found himself surplus to requirements due to Daniel Pudil and new signing Joe Bennett being ahead of him in the pecking order.
