Queens Park Rangers are in talks to sign Wigan Athletic defender James Perch, according to HITC Sport.
Rangers boss Chris Ramsey is keen to add to his defensive options and sees versatile Perch as the ideal man to bolster the squad.
Wigan boss Gary Caldwell is resigned to losing his experienced captain following their relegation last season and it is thought the player likes the idea of a move to Loftus Road.
Mansfield-born Perch started his career with Nottingham Forest and made 200 appearances for the club before moving to Newcastle United in 2010.
After a three-year spell at St James’ Park, Perch moved to Wigan and has since played 80 times for the club in two seasons.
QPR have been active in the transfer market since relegation and will be hoping to conclude a few more deals to add to the six they have already made before the start of the season.
Perch is a model of consistency and will offer the R’s second tier experience in abundance. He could prove to be the a key part of Ramsey’s plans next season should the club manage to complete the deal.
The R’s will be hoping for an immediate return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and Perch’s versatility and experience should go a long way in enhancing their chances of attaining promotion.
