Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney is set to join Sky Bet League One side Barnsley on loan this week, according to the Sun.
The 19-year old joined Steve McClaren’s side in the summer after scoring 13 goals in 60 games for his hometown club Northampton Town, but has struggled for game time at St James’ Park.
He was recently linked with a move to Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he now looks set to join Barnsley, who currently find themselves in the relegation zone after a run of seven successive league defeats.
While their top scorer is Sam Winnall with five, behind him are midfielders Josh Scowen and Conor Hourihane with four and three respectively, making it clear that another striker is needed at Oakwell to get the goals needed to drag themselves away from the bottom four in League One.
Barnsley currently lie 22nd in table, and are on a dreadful run of form, which was compounded by being knocked out of the FA Cup by Non-league Altrincham yesterday.
