Trotter was signed for Bolton by current Forest boss Dougie Freedman and the Scotsman appears to have raided his former club for the ex-Millwall man.

It will be the second time Freedman has poached a player from his former club having signed his captain at Bolton, Matt Mills on a free transfer in the summer.

The Reds boss is keen to bolster a midfielder which has been left decimated due to injuries to key players Ben Osborn and Michael Mancienne, and Trotter could be in line for a first start for the club away at Bristol City on Friday night, if Forest can get the deal over the line.

Trotter is natural when playing in a defensive midfield role and has not featured for the Trotters since the opening day of the season.

A signing of Trotter’s ilk would indicate that despite an ongoing transfer embargo, Forest are still able to attract quality Championship players.

Dougie Freedman’s men currently sit in 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 12 points from ten league games so far this season.

Forest fans… Would you welcome Trotter? Is he a like-for-like replacement for the injured Mancienne? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
