Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Aston Villa to re-sign midfielder Gary Gardner on loan until the end of the season, according to the Nottingham Post.
The 23-year-old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground and built up a solid rapport with the club’s supporters after a series of impressive displays in the middle of the park.
In 18 appearances for the Reds, the Birmingham-born player netted four goals with each one making the goal of the season scrapbook come the end of the campaign.
Former Villa boss Tim Sherwood offered Gardner a new four-and-a-half year deal during his time with the club, but since the arrival of Remi Garde he has found first-team football hard to come by, leading to this latest loan spell.
Forest supporters will be delighted to welcome back Gardner who has previously stated how close he felt to the club following his previous spell.
Dougie Freedman’s side have endured an inconsistent 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign, and will no doubt be hoping Gardner can revitalise the side and give them a hope of reaching the top six.
