Deal Close: Middlesbrough set to sign versatile international defender

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is set to add Benfica defender Victor Lindelof to this ranks as he looks to guide his side to the Premier League, according to the Gazette.

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof, who can play in defence as well as in defensive midfield, will move to Teesside on loan until the end of the season and the club have the option to make the deal permanent, should he be a success.

The 21-year-old is very highly-rated and was actually named in the Under-21 European Champions Team of the Tournament last summer after impressing with his nation.

He has appeared for the Portuguese giants six times this season and despite being a regular in the club’s B team, has struggled to make a significant impact in the first-team.

He moves to the Riverside following the departures of loan duo Jack Stephens and Bruno Zuculini, leaving Karanka short in defensive midfield and at centre-back.

Middlesbrough currently sit top of the Championship after a terrific campaign so far and they find themselves five points clear of second-placed Hull City, with a game in hand.
