Deal Close: Manchester United midfielder set for permanent switch away from Old Trafford

Preston North End look set to complete the signing of Manchester United midfielder Liam Grimshaw, according to the Scottish Sun (via the Express).

Grimshaw, a versatile midfielder who can also operate across the back line, looks set to sign a permanent deal at Deepdale, where he will be hoping to cement a regular starting berth in the side.

Preston have struggled for consistency this season, but this week added another Manchester United youngster, Ben Pearson, to their ranks. They will be hoping Pearson and Grimshaw can strike up a good understanding as they look to climb the table.

Compared by United coaches to someone in the same mould as Phil Neville and John O’Shea, his ability to operate in numerous positions will be of vital importance to Simon Grayson and his squad.

He spent time on loan at Motherwell last season, impressing coaching staff with his attitude and willingness to learn the game.

Grimshaw has become in a regular in the Manchester United under-21 set up, and was nominated for the player of the year award when United won the title.

Preston currently sit 15th in The Championship, and have opened up a 10 point gap to the bottom three.
