It is expected that Hasselbaink will attend training today at Burton but it is likely that he will be saying his goodbyes to the Brewers, as he sets to finalise a move to Loftus Road as the appointment could be announced as early as Friday.

The Hoops have been without a manager since sacking Chris Ramsey at the beginning of November, and installed former boss Neil Warnock as interim as the board began the search for a new boss.

Regardless of what happens, Warnock will be in charge of first-team affairs for Friday night's trip to Reading.

Hasselbaink saw his Burton side move two points clear at the top of League One with a 2-1 win over Millwall at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.

It is understood that the Dutchman told his players that he could be leaving and promised them that he would keep them in the know about what is going on after speculation increased over a possible exit.

The former Leeds United and Chelsea striker was named manager of Burton Albion in November 2014, after Gary Rowett left to take over at Birmingham City and guided the club to the League Two title last season.

Hasselbaink with be handed the task of getting QPR to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt; but they currently sit 12th in the Championship after 18 matches, but are just five points away from the play-off places.

His first match in charge will be the visit of Burnley to Loftus Road on December 12.
