The 33-year-old departed Leyton Orient following their relegation to League Two despite having two years left on a three-year deal he signed with the London club last summer.

He made 25 appearances, scoring eight goals, but injuries affected his availability during his time at Brisbane Road.

Henderson had been on trial at former club Nottingham Forest, where he had scored ten goals in 44 appearances during the 2013-14 season, and was included in the club's pre-season tour of Sweden.

He was also linked with a return to another former club in Sheffield United but now Scunthorpe have pounced on the target man and he looks set to joining Mark Robins' side.

Robins has undertaken an overhaul of his squad his summer, signing no fewer than ten players, as he looks to build a side that is capable of challenging for a top six finish.

The former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town manager missed out on Swindon Town's top scorer Andy Williams, who rejected the chance to join the Iron in favour of rivals Doncaster Rovers.

Lyle Taylor was allowed to leave to join AFC Wimbledon which meant Robins could add another forward to his side as he hopes Henderson can compliment Paddy Madden in the Scunthorpe attack.
