The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Huddersfield for the majority of the summer transfer window, and it is Rams boss Paul Clement who will be looking to tempt the Yorkshire club into doing business.

Derby County could be about to make one of the biggest Championship signings of this window with the deal, as £500,000 worth of add-on clauses could accumulate to a large transfer fee for Huddersfield’s star player.

Butterfield was named as Town’s Player of the Season last year and has proved to be a quality Sky Bet Championship midfielder by consistently performing to a high level. Derby have been interested in the player for some time and could now be on the brink of finally making the deal concrete.

In the 2013/14 season, Butterfield made 32 appearances for Middlesbrough as he strived to secure a first team place for the North-East side. However, he was surplus to requirements for Aitor Karanka and made his mark on a Huddersfield side that surprised a few last season.

But now, the midfielder could become Paul Clement’s eight signing since becoming Derby manager as he makes his way to iPro Stadium – the signing will see Derby County’s total summer spending go above £13m, increasing expectations for the coming season.
