Sky Bet Championship side Fulham are close to signing Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle on loan, according to the Mirror.
The 25-year-old joined the Eagles in 2013, following their promotion to the Premier League, for a club record £6 million, and has made just under 50 appearances, scoring just 12 goals in the Premier League.
Gayle is still waiting for his Palace career to get going, his most famous escapade at the club being a hat-trick at home to Liverpool last season, but is looking towards a loan switch at Fulham to prove he can be Pardew’s goalscorer.
And with the impending arrival of Connor Wickham from Sunderland, for a fee of around £9 million, the former Arsenal man will be pushed down the pecking order even further.
Fulham will now take him for the season as Kit Symons looks to broaden his striking options. It’s a surprise they had such little competition, considering the fact that Wolves made a permanent offer earlier on in the summer.
This is a smart move from the Whites and Gayle could easily strike a formidable partnership with Ross McCormack, given his differing attributes.
