Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City appear to have won the race for Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle after they had a bid in the region of £6 million accepted this afternoon.
According to Sky Sources, a bid was made by the Championship newcomers today and it has been accepted by the Premier League outfit.
It was announced yesterday that Gayle was among seven players who Eagles boss Alan Pardew was keen to move on from his squad and Bristol have wasted little time in making a move for the former Arsenal trainee.
The 25-year-old moved to Selhurst Park from Peterborough United in 2013 but has struggled to nail down a first-team position and is undoubtedly desperate for first-team football.
In 48 appearances for the Premier League club he has scored 12 goals and is a striker who is lethal inside the penalty area.
Bristol boss Steve Cotterill has been largely frustrated in his attempts to recruit new players this summer and the signing of Gayle will come as a real bonus for the club – as they look to maintain their status in the Sky Bet Championship.
Bristol City fans… Are you happy with the news that Gayle is on the verge of a move? Where would he fit into your side? Would he make a good strike partner for Aaron Wilbraham?
