Ex-Newcastle United Shola Ameobi is set to be offered a short-term deal with Bolton Wanderers, despite being rejected by the club last week, the Bolton News reports.
Th former Newcastle forward is believed to have been at the Trotters’ training ground in Euxton this morning with a short-term offer being discussed between them.
If the deal is confirmed in time, Ameobi could be in contention to face fellow strugglers Leeds United tomorrow at the Macron Stadium.
However, all this comes just days after boss Neil Lennon rejected the chance to sign Ameobi ,after he had a trial with the Wanderers, saying that he believed that he possesses similar attributes to what he already has at the club.
But as many Bolton fans know, they are in desperate need of firepower in the final third, with Gary Madine and 37-year-old Emile Heskey, the only senior strikers at the club and currently sit bottom of the Championship with the least amount of goals scored in the entire Football League, with nine.
The move may have also been resurrected after the news coming out of Bolton confirmed that Arsenal loanee Wellington Silva is out until the New Year with a hamstring injury.
This means that Lennon will be taking what ever is available to him to try and save the club from relegation, starting with Shola Ameobi, who has an average of one goal every six games in his career.
Bolton are set to play their second home game this week on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Leeds United, who are under the new management of Steve Evans, with both clubs desperately searching for a win to try and revive their season.
