Deal Agreed: Wolves to secure the permanent signing of Premier League defender

Wolves have agreed a fee to sign Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson on a permanent deal, the club have confirmed.

Williamson has been out of favour at St James Park and was on loan with Wolves earlier in the season, and was impressive during his stint in the Midlands.

The player signed for Newcastle from Portsmouth, six years ago – making 150 appearances for the Toon.

The 32-year-old impressed Kenny Jackett in his time at the club and will bring experience in to a youthful defence.

The defender was recalled by the club due to a injury crisis at Newcastle, but pulled his hamstring just a few days after returning to the north, and hasn’t played since.

Williamson kept three clean sheets in five games in his time with the club and the signing will be a major boost in their late push for a play-off place.

Wolves currently sit in 12th place and Williamson could be line to make his second home debut with the club against bottom side Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Wolves fans… Happy with the signing? Did Williamson impress you in his brief spell? Will he improve the defence? Let us know in your thoughts and opinions below!
