Many Portsmouth fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Paul Downing has left the club to join Rochdale on loan.
The 30-year-old centre back had previously found himself largely unused by Danny Cowley at Fratton Park, with the defender being named as one of a cluster of players that were expected to leave the club this month.
Now he has returned up north to join Rochdale on a deal until the end of the current season, arriving back in Lancashire as a result – a part of the country he knows well from his time at Blackburn Rovers.
Naturally it didn’t take long for the Portsmouth faithful to react to the news of Downing’s departure, with many taking to social media to air their views on the announcement.
Quiz: Can you name which club Portsmouth signed these 28 midfielders from?
Here we take a look at some of the best responses from the supporters on Twitter after the defender left.

Sorry your time at our Club didn't work out the way you intended. But it's not entirely your fault. So Good Luck for the future, Paul & family. And hope everything goes well. 🤞💙
