The 30-year-old has signed a two-year deal after agreeing to a move to the DW Stadium for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £1.25million.

Bolton Wanderers had been chasing the striker before his move to local rivals Wigan.

The former Ipswich striker scored ten goals in 32 Championship appearances last term but had his chances of first-team football lessened at Portman Road after the arrival of new boss Paul Hurst.

Having scored over 100 EFL goals, Garner moves back up to Lancashire, where he made his name with Preston North End before his move to Suffolk.

Garner told Wigan’s official website: “It's a great club to be at, and I'm excited to be here after speaking to the manager about his ideas, so I'm looking forward to getting out there and helping the lads out.”

But not all Latics fans are impressed with the newest arrival at the DW Stadium.
