Three deadline day signings rescued Sheffield Wednesday’s window from falling into the category of disastrous, and they have set the Owls on their way to a comeback trail.

Wednesday announced the signings of three players on loan, all from Premier League clubs.

Newcastle duo Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons joined from the North East club - both of those have struggled for minutes at the club this season but represent positive signings for Wednesday.

The third addition was Dominic Iorfa, who joined on loan from Wolves.

The Owls have had a season of disappointment so far, and these signings represent the start of the Steve Bruce reign.

Bruce joined the club after a few months out of the game following his sacking from Aston Villa earlier in the season, and despite not being able to achieve objectives at Villa, he is a very astute signing for the Owls.

These three signings are the start of what promises to be an exciting time at the club, at least compared to the last eighteen months, where Wednesday have failed to compete for a play-off spot.

While they are not going to win matches on their own, all three will be good additions to a squad lacking in confidence.

Bruce’s first task is to beat Ipswich at Portman Road today, in what could be a good chance to pick up three points against a relegation candidate.

Wednesday are not expected to do anything this season in terms of going up or down, but the Deadline Day signings act as a chance for Bruce to start his reign well, before properly getting going in the summer, hoping Wednesday can challenge for the top six once more next season.
