Huddersfield Town finished towards the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship last season, although signs of positivity for the future were evident following the arrival of David Wagner in November.

Wagner will not be judged by the ardent Huddersfield Town supporters until he has assembled his own group of players this pre-season, although the German coach will be expected to improve on last season’s disappointing 19th.

Huddersfield are the envy of most other clubs with their outstanding facilities and in particular their youth academy, which is of a superb standard.

The club’s under-21s were crowned champions of their development league last season, with many of the star performers expected to push for first-team places in the near future.

With boss Wagner turning his attentions towards signing younger players, Football League World writer Lee Clarke took a look at three potential stars he could utilise from the club’s academy during the 2016/17 campaign.

Flo Bojaj

The Albanian youth international has been with the Terriers since 2013 and last season was an impressive one for the youngster with both the development squad and the first-team.

Bojaj is likely to feature much more for the first-team in 2016/17 and he will probably add to his eight appearances for the club last season.

He only accumulated 31 minutes across all of his eight appearances although his game time is expected to be much more frequent during the next campaign.

Back in March, Bojaj showed his ability to develop into a solid Championship player by netting the third goal in a 3-1 win over Reading.

Philip Billing

Philip Billing

The Danish midfielder was another player to make the step up from youth team to first-team last season and a lot will be expected of Billing in 2016/17.

He made 13 appearances in all competitions for Huddersfield last season and netted a superb long range effort in a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest in February.

His potential is undoubted and Billing looks set to become a key player in the heart of the Huddersfield Town midfield during the 2016/17 campaign.

Billing is extremely comfortable in possession and if the Terries can place someone with a bit of steel next to him, their midfield could be a force next season.

Kyle Dempsey

Dempsey has joined Huddersfield Town

Dempsey was signed for the Terriers by former boss Chris Powell on the back of an impressive campaign with Carlisle United, where he netted 11 goals during his first full season in the team.

The 20-year-old didn’t feature in the first-team much at all under David Wagner and he will have a fair bit to do in pre-season if he is to force his way into the team for next season.

That said, the player has a lot of potential and he is certainly a decent player for Huddersfield to keep around during the next campaign.

Dempsey possesses a decent turn of pace, skill and an eye for a goal and his potential could be fulfilled with a longer stint in the first-team.
