A flurry of impressive deadline day signings helped Notts County kickstart their fight for League Two survival, after a battling 1-1 draw against league leaders Lincoln City at the weekend.

Many would have been expecting the Imps, who currently occupy top spot in the League Two table, to go to Meadow Lane and ease past the Magpies, who sit rock-bottom of the Football League.

But after adding some vastly experienced players to what was already a very talented squad on paper, Neal Ardley's men earned a very spirited and hard-working point against Danny Cowley's men, after a very impressive display.

The likes of Craig Mackail-Smith worked his socks off up front, whilst the midfield duo of Jim O'Brien and Michael Doyle forged a fantastic understanding to nullify the threat of a strong Lincoln midfield.

The latter was a resounding man-of-the-match for County, and he's likely to play an integral role in the Magpies' fight to stay up this season - but where does this now leave David Vaughan?

The experienced Wales international was seen as a magnificent coup for the League Two club when he signed for the club in the summer, making the short journey across the road from Nottingham Forest.

A midfielder that has amassed over 500 appearances in his career, with a large majority of those coming in the Premier League, Vaughan was seen as the man that would replace the departing club captain Michael O'Connor.

But fast forward six months, and Vaughan has been frozen out at Meadow Lane. After such a dignified performance in the middle of the park, it will be incredibly hard for the 35-year-old to get in ahead of O'Brien and Doyle, as well as Mitch Rose, who filled in at right-back at the weekend.

It's been a torrid time for Vaughan at Meadow Lane, who has made just 15 league starts for the struggling Magpies this season. I wouldn't bank on him being at the club next season, regardless of what division they may be in.
