Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league when they return to action against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening.

The Owls were beaten 5-0 by Blackburn Rovers in their last league game, although they bounced back from that thrashing with a 2-1 win over QPR in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Garry Monk's side take on a Wigan team that are struggling to stay afloat in the second tier, and the Owls will be keen to fire themselves back into the play-off places.

The Latics are sat 23rd in the Championship table, and will be hoping they can pull themselves clear of the relegation zone at the earliest of opportunities.

Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton has issued his thoughts ahead of the game, and highlighted Wigan's home form as one of the main reasons as to why they could survive in the Championship this season.

"In spite of their league position, Wigan are not short of self-belief and certainly have not disgraced themselves this term. The 3-2 win at Birmingham was their first win on the road this season, but there's no doubt home form is what Paul Cook will be counting on to rescue the Latics."

Prutton went on to admit that he is expecting Sheffield Wednesday to come away with something for their efforts on the night, and predicted a 1-1 draw for his weekly prediction in this one.

"Steven Fletcher's knee injury came at the worst time possible for Wednesday, but, save the 5-0 thumping at the hands of Blackburn, they have coped well and remain just a few points off the play-off places so I think they will take something from this one."

A win for Sheffield Wednesday could see them move up to seventh in the Championship table, providing that other results go their way on the night.

The Verdict:

I have to disagree with Prutton here.

Sheffield Wednesday really impressed me in their recent FA Cup win over QPR, and I think they'll be itching to get back to winning ways in their league campaign.

Even though Steven Fletcher is out injured, I think Garry Monk has strong enough options available to him to cope in their bid for a top-six finish this season.

Wigan are struggling at the moment, so I have to predict a narrow win for Sheffield Wednesday for this game on Tuesday evening.
