Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has provided his prediction for Wigan Athletic’s clash with Nottingham Forest at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

Forest arrive in the North West only behind league leaders West Bromwich Albion on goal difference after a fantastic start to the season.

They face a Wigan side that have proved a very different prospect at home than on the road this season, picking up 10 of their 11 points at the DW Stadium in the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the Reds have not been beaten since their opening weekend loss to the Baggies, so this looks to be a tough test for Paul Cook’s men.

Writing on the Sky Sports website, Prutton indicated he felt Forest would have too much for the hosts and predicted a 1-0 win for the visitors.

He said: "Win at home, lost away, win at home, lost away. I bang on about this a lot but Wigan's last four games just sums up their experience in the Championship under Paul Cook.

"Nottingham Forest have been a little bit of a surprise package so far. They have ground out more results than I would have anticipated and look well placed for a meaningful run at the top six–at the very least. I think they could nick another win on Sunday."

A win could see Sabri Lamouchi’s men leapfrog West Brom and move into first place, while a loss may mean they drop out of the top six entirely–such is the congestion at the top of the Championship.

For the Latics, a defeat could see them drop into the relegation places but a victory will distance them from the dreaded drop zone.

The Verdict

Despite Wigan’s strong home form, it is tough to disagree with Prutton on this one. Wigan have scored the second-least goals in the Championship, while their opponents have kept the second-tightest defence.

Lamouchi’s side had picked up a real head of steam prior to the international break and were the form team in the Championship since their opening weekend loss to the Baggies, so you fancy them to keep that run going.

It looks likely to be a tight game, however, as the Reds have won five of their six league victories this season by a one-goal margin.
