David Prutton has run the rule over the meeting between Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Gerhard Struber will take charge of his first game as head coach of the Tykes after he was appointed as their new manager earlier this week.

Barnsley are bottom of the Championship and have won just once all season but they may be a different proposition entirely with the Austrian coach at the helm.

They travel across the Pennines to Ewood Park to face a Blackburn side that have had an underwhelming start the 2019/20 campaign.

Tony Mowbray's side are 18th in the Championship as things stand and have won just once in their last eight matches.

Writing for Sky Sports, Prutton indicated that poor run of form was likely to continue, predicting a 1-0 win for the visitors.

That result would mean a victory for Struber in his first game in charge of the Yorkshire club and provide them with a huge confidence boost ahead of their clash with fellow strugglers Middlesbrough.

Three points for the Tykes could see them move off the bottom of the table, should Stoke City slip up against Wigan Athletic.

A win for Mowbray's side could see them climb as high as 14th and would distance them from the relegation battle, while a loss would likely see them slide further towards the drop zone.

The Verdict

Struber looks a really exciting appointment for Barnsley and his high-energy pressing style should fit their young, dynamic squad well.

With Blackburn having struggled in the last few months, you feel the Tykes may have too much for them following the arrival of the Austrian coach.

A defeat at the hands of Barnsley would likely see the pressure build on Mowbray, whose side have failed to build on their 15th-place finish last season.
