Watford will be looking to get back to winning ways when they return to action in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets were forced to settle for a point in their last match, as they drew with winless Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park in midweek.

That stalemate means that Vladimir Ivić's side are now sat fifth in the second-tier standings after their opening eight matches of this year's league campaign.

They're back in action on Saturday against Barnsley at Oakwell, in what could be a tricky test. The Tykes beat QPR 3-0, in an hugely impressive performance in Valérien Ismaël's first match in charge.

Barnsley are 18th in the Championship standings, and will be eager to put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities, as they look to pull further clear of the relegation zone.

Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton issued his thoughts ahead of the game, and predicted a 1-1 draw between the two sides, whilst also praising Watford for the depth in their squad this season in the Championship.

"Valerien Ismael seems to have got them off to a flyer with a great win against QPR in midweek. They have a knack of shrewd managerial appointments, Barnsley, and could well be on to another winner here.

"Watford have an excellent squad, but this will be another tough game for them. They have only scored more than once in a game all season, and I think they will be held again on Saturday."

The Verdict:

This is going to be a closely-fought battle between the two sides.

Watford will be eager to get back to winning ways, after having to settle for a point against Wycombe Wanderers in their most recent fixture.

But Barnsley won't be a pushover by any stretch of the imagination, as I was really impressed by them in Ismael's first game in charge in midweek.

Watford have too much quality in their side though, and I expect them to run out narrow winners at Oakwell on Saturday.
