In a quirky twist of fate, one that is synonymous with football fixtures, these two sides meet just four days after they went toe-to-toe in the League Cup.

Hull City will want revenge having been beaten 4-0 on their own patch in the cup on Tuesday night.

This will be a different game than the midweek tie with both sides fielding a stronger XI after resting players for Carabao Cup.

Hull are coming into this fixture having lost to Stoke last weekend in the league, while the Rams head to the KCOM with back-to-back Championship wins under their belt.

After the cup with Frank Lampard’s men will want a repeat of the result, with Nigel Adkins looking to avenge their below par performance.

With that said, Sky Sports’ David Prutton looks ahead to the game and offers his prediction: “Well, this fixture looks familiar!

“It was only Tuesday night when these two sides met in the second round of the Carabao Cup at the KCOM Stadium, where Derby thumped them 4-0.

“There were plenty of changes that night, and the teams will be very different on Saturday, but Derby will still be on a high from the result, and I can't see this game going too differently. Away win. 0-2.”

The Verdict

It is always strange how football throws up consecutive fixtures against the same team in different competitions.

Derby will be hoping for lightning to strike twice regarding the result, and it could happen.

Hull City are in poor form having picked up one win this season against Rotherham, and they have looked below average in many of their other games before and after.

Nigel Adkins is the most positive man in football, but he can’t escape from what looks like another inevitable defeat.

Derby will be buoyed after their cup win on the back of two wins on the bounce in the League.

It will be the Rams who walk this one 3-0 at the KCOM.
