In what is arguably the fixture of the night, Aston Villa host Brentford tomorrow evening with both sides looking to maintain their unbeaten starts to the new season.

Aston Villa head into the match against Dean Smith’s side on the back of a one-all draw with Ipswich Town last weekend.

The draw extended Villa’s run without defeat to three games having picked up maximum points from their first two games before last Saturday’s stalemate.

Brentford, meanwhile, have a similar record to Steve Bruce’s side ahead of tonight’s clash.

The Bees have won two of their three opening games and sandwiched between the two victories came a one-all draw on the road against Stoke.

It’s fifth against fourth in the early stages of the Championship and with it so hard to call, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has been unable to decide a winner.

Prutton has gone for a 2-2 draw between the sides and told Sky Sports’ website: “This is another tough one - Brentford have had a wonderful start to the season, but I suppose you could also say the same thing about Villa.

“It would've been a tougher assignment had it been at Griffin Park but the Bees will be confident after a very good performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. I feel this could be a very close game.”

The verdict

There is no getting away from the excellent start both sides have made.

Aston Villa and Brentford and neck and neck in the league with the latter ahead on goal difference during the early exchanges of the new season.

This will be one of the sternest tests either side have faced this year, and it could well be a statement between two very evenly matched teams.

A one-all draw in an enthralling encounter under the lights at Villa Park.
