Leeds United will be hoping to get their automatic promotion push back on track tonight, as they prepare to travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End.
The Whites failed to build on an enthralling 3-2 home win over Millwall at the weekend, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s.
Their weekend was made even worse with automatic promotion rivals Sheffield United winning 1-0 at Deepdale, therefore Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be hoping to do the same tonight.
Alex Neil’s North End will be also looking to get back to winning ways in order to reignite their play-off push – the Lilywhites sit 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table, five points off the top six.
Deepdale is a tough place to go to and leave with all three points, so Leeds will have a big task on their hands tonight – so what does David Prutton think?
The Sky Sports pundit has predicted a 1-0 away win for Bielsa’s men: “Preston looked almost unstoppable until the international break halted their momentum somewhat, and back-to-back defeats have left their play-off hopes hanging by a thread.
“Leeds will be so frustrated to lose their spot in the top two again, but they have the opportunity to heap the pressure back on Sheffield United before they play on Wednesday. I think they’ll do just that.”
Leeds currently sit one point off Sheffield United in third place, with just six games of the season left to play.
I think this is going to be a tough test for Leeds, and I am going to disagree with Prutton on this one.
Of course, Bielsa’s men will be so eager to bounce back after such a disappointing result at the weekend, but I think they could come undone again here.
Preston thrive on being underdogs and Deepdale is such a tough place to go, and I think they will nick it 1-0 rather than Leeds.
