David Prutton has claimed that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford's impressive performance in the 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers last weekend could be an important moment in his season.

Bamford hadn't found the net since August prior to the game but opened the scoring from the penalty spot after half an hour and then turned creator five minutes later, feeding the ball to Jack Harrison who scored the second.

The 26-year-old made a fast start to the season, scoring four times in the first five league games, and has retained the faith of Marcelo Bielsa, despite going 10 games without scoring.

Bamford has started every Championship game this season, meaning Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah has been restricted to substitute appearances in the league–despite having scored the same number of goals in fewer minutes.

In his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton suggested that Bamford ending his drought prior to the international break could be huge for him and reflected on what he took from the team's celebrations.

He said: "It was good for Patrick Bamford to get back in amongst the goals in the 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers.

"All of the other players piled in on him when he scored which was a nice little touch and he seems like a very popular member of the squad which is good.

"It was imperative that he scored at that moment in time and then quickly had a hand in the second goal scored through Jack Harrison, so hopefully he will have skipped into the international break and come out ready to go again."

The win against Blackburn leaves the Whites third in the Championship, only outside the automatic promotion places on goal difference.

The Verdict

You feel Prutton is right on this one–heading into the international break on the back of an impressive performance and after ending his goal drought could be huge for Bamford going forward.

If he can come out scoring after the break it could be massive for Leeds as the final third is where they've struggled this season.

Bielsa's side have got the tightest defence in the league, having conceded the fewest goals and kept the most clean sheets, but have missed the most big chances.

If Bamford can start scoring regularly it would be huge for their promotion chances.
