David Prutton has claimed that on-loan Leeds United defender Ben White could have the potential to play for England in the future.

White joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Brighton in the summer and has been one of the standout players for Marcelo Bielsa's side in the Championship so far this season.

The 21-year-old has played every minute of every game for the Whites in the Championship and has impressed massively with his performances at centre-back.

He's formed a brilliant partnership with captain Liam Cooper at the heart of the Leeds defence and has turned out to be an excellent replacement for Pontus Jansson.

White had never played in the Championship before this season, but he's impressed hugely with how quickly he's been able to adapt to the division since arriving at Elland Road.

Former Leeds midfielder Prutton has been very impressed by Whites' performances so far this season and believes the defender could have the potential to play for England in the future.

Prutton wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I have seen talk of Ben having been the best defender in the Championship so far and that he should get an England call and there is potential for that."

He added: "It’s nice to sit and ponder and dissect whether he would become an England international defender and that’s purely at the feet of Ben and how he approaches his career because he’s got the attributes to do that.

"After that, it’s about realising your potential, being hard-working and determined enough to realise that and he does strike me as that type of player.

The Verdict

White has been excellent for Leeds so far this season and he's formed a great partnership with Cooper at centre-back. He's got all the attributes of top centre-half and he's really impressed me with how quickly he's adapted to the Championship.

He's got so much potential and based on how well he's performed so far this season, he certainly could have what it takes to make the step up to the Premier League in the future - and maybe even play for England too.

It'll be very interesting to see how far he can go in his career in the future, but for now, he's just got to keep doing what he is doing at Leeds, keep learning and keep improving. He's going to have a huge role to play in the Whites' promotion push this season.
