Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has issued his verdict on Stoke City's visit to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow evening.

After a torrid start to the 2019/20 campaign, Stoke have picked up impressive wins against Swansea City and Fulham in their past two games.

The Potters won two points from their first ten Championship games of the season but have picked up six points from their past two and moved to within two points of safety.

They travel to Sheffield to face a Wednesday side that have been hugely impressive since Garry Monk took over at the start of September.

The Owls have taken 11 points from six games under their new manager and climbed to eighth in the table–only one point outside the top six.

Monk's side were denied a seventh win of the season by a late Lee Tomlin free-kick against Cardiff City on Friday evening and will undoubtedly be looking to get back to winning ways against the Potters.

Writing for Sky Sports, Prutton has predicted they will do exactly that and suggested the game will finish 2-1 to the hosts.

He explained: "Garry Monk was frustrated with his side's failure to win at Cardiff on Friday night, which shows how far Sheffield Wednesday have come in such a short space of time.

"Stoke look a different beast altogether now, and they were clinical in their victory over Fulham on Saturday. Nathan Jones looks fired up in the dugout again, but I think the Owls will nick this one."

A win for the Owls would likely see them move into the top six and could see them go as high as third.

Stoke could move out of the relegation with a high-scoring win–as long as Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town draw.

The Verdict

Stoke have bounced back with two important wins either side of the international break and now look a much more dangerous proposition than they have for the majority of the season.

However, Wednesday have been really impressive under Monk and it is difficult to disagree with Prutton on the result.

A win will likely provide the Owls with a big confidence boost ahead of the visit of Leeds United on Saturday.
