Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has issued his verdict on the final day clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, suggesting that Neil Warnock's side will claim the victory.

Neither side's Championship survival is confirmed just yet – with Boro sitting just two points above the drop zone and Wednesday awaiting the result of a pending EFL charge.

The threat of relegation is certainly a more pressing one for the Teessiders, who know that defeat could see them drop down to the third tier of English football.

The Owls, on the other hand, will be hoping to ensure they remain 12 points above the bottom three – as the EFL has handed out a number of 12-point deductions in recent years.

Boro have won three of their seven games since Warnock took charge in late June and, writing for the Sky Sports website, Prutton has predicted that his side will pick up a fourth victory.

He has suggested that Boro will beat Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough this evening.

That result would ensure the Teessider's Championship survival and could mean the Owls stay 12 points above the relegation zone, should results elsewhere go their way.

Did these 12 ex-Middlesbrough players score more or less than 20 goals during their time at the club?

The Verdict

We look set for an enticing final day of the season – with six sides under serious threat of being relegated today.

It's hard to disagree with this prediction from Prutton, Wednesday haven't been wholly convincing this term and you'd back Warnock to get his players really up for this one.

It looks like it will likely be a tight and physical game at Hillsborough but one that might hand the Boro coach the victory that sees him complete the job he was brought in to do
