Derby County will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Championship this afternoon when they host Huddersfield Town at Pride Park.

The Rams, who are currently 13th in the second-tier standings, suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bristol City on Wednesday.

Despite late strikes from Martyn Waghorn and Chris Martin, Derby were unable to prevent the Robins from sealing all three points at Ashton Gate.

When you consider just how underwhelming the Rams were in a defensive sense during this fixture, it would not be at all surprising if Phillip Cocu opts to make a number of changes to his starting eleven for today's fixture.

Whilst Ben Hamer is unavailable due to the fact that he is currently on loan from Huddersfield, Tom Huddlestone is also set to miss out as he continues to struggle with a calf injury.

Although the Rams will be confident of sealing a sixth successive home victory today, they cannot afford to overlook the Terriers who have stepped up their performance levels since appointing Danny Cowley as their new manager earlier this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, pundit David Prutton has predicted that the Rams will beat Huddersfield 3-1.

The 38-year-old said: "Derby are fantastic at home and not so good away, so they will be delighted to be back at Pride Park on Saturday!

"Huddersfield are lacking consistency, which is why they are still languishing near the relegation zone.

"Home win."

The Verdict

Although Derby slipped to their ninth away league defeat of the season in midweek, they should have more than enough quality at their disposal to bounce back from this setback today.

Given that the Rams currently possess the second-best home record in the Championship, it would be somewhat of a shock if they fail to deliver the goods in-front of their own supporters against Huddersfield.

Providing that the likes of Duane Holmes, Wayne Rooney and Tom Lawrence are all on top-form this afternoon, the Rams could potentially send out a real signal of intent to the rest of the second-tier.

Whilst they are currently 10 points adrift of the top-six, there is no reason why Derby cannot launch a late push for the play-offs by using their game with Huddersfield as a springboard heading into the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.
