Wigan Athletic will be looking for their first win in seven attempts when they welcome Mark Bowen's Reading to the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Paul Cook's men picked up a rare away point last time out after a 2-2 draw with Millwall on Tuesday evening but the result wasn't good enough to lift the Latics out of the Championship relegation zone.

After picking up nine points in four games, Reading now find themselves on the back of two consecutive defeats after being narrowly beat by both Brentford and Leeds United last time out.

The Royals have only managed one win away from home all season, whereas all of Wigan's four wins have come at the DW Stadium this term.

As ever Sky Sports' EFL expert David Prutton has issued his latest round of predictions for the Championship this weekend, including Wigan's match with Reading.

Speaking on Thursday evening, the former Leeds United midfielder said: "Wigan probably should have picked up a few more points lately. They have been in good positions going into games on so many occasions, but keep letting them slip."

"The honeymoon period is over for Mark Bowen, with Reading losing their last two on the spin," Prutton added, "They are slipping back towards the drop zone, where Wigan currently reside."

With not much separating the two sides, Prutton opted for a 1-1 draw, saying: "Both teams will be so desperate not to lose that a draw feels inevitable."

The Verdict

This game is probably the hardest to call of all the games across the league this weekend, and like Prutton I find it hard to separate the two sides in anyway.

Both sides have been underwhelming over their last couple of games, however Wigan will take confidence from their spirited performance at Millwall on Tuesday.

Reading have only managed six points on the road all season and Wigan will certainly cause them problems on Saturday.

It is hard to look past a draw between these two sides, or if not a draw, a narrow Wigan win.
