Leeds United will be hoping they can keep the pressure on league-leaders West Brom in the Championship table when they return to action this week.

The Whites are currently sat second in the second-tier standings, and are five points clear of third-placed Fulham with 12 games remaining of this year's campaign.

They take on relegation-threatened Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening, and will be confident of picking up another three points to aid their promotion bid this term.

Jonathan Woodgate's side are currently sat 20th in the Championship table, and are just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton has issued his thoughts ahead of the game at the Riverside on Wednesday evening, and has predicted that Marcelo Bielsa's side will come out on top against Boro.

"I'd imagine Jonathan Woodgate will be desperate for this season to end! It's been a real rollercoaster for Boro this term and they are within touching distance of the drop zone at the time of speaking so this is an important week on Teesside.

"Leeds seem to have stabilised since that draw with Brentford earlier in the month and the fact under-fire goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has kept back-to-back clean sheets will be a massive boost for Marcelo Bielsa. Away win, for me."

If other results go their way, Leeds could move eight points clear of the promotion-chasing pack in the Championship, and promotion is definitely in their hands, as they look to make a long-awaited return back into the top-flight.

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Prutton here.

Leeds seem to have found a way to grind out positive results in recent weeks, which has put an end to their slump in form since the turn of the New Year.

They weren't at their best against Reading in their last game, and will be hoping that they can put teams away in a more ruthless fashion in the near future.

Middlesbrough are really struggling at the moment in the Championship, and have slipped back into relegation contention this season, which will make for concerning reading for the club's supporters.

I can see Leeds running out convincing winners against Jonathan Woodgate's side, as they look to keep the pressure on league-leaders West Brom with a win at the Riverside.
