David Prutton believes Wolves winger Helder Costa would be a fantastic signing for Leeds United.

It was reported by Football Insider earlier this month that Leeds are hoping to sign the Portuguese winger on a season-long loan, as they target promotion from the Championship next season.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa is looking to bolster his attacking options and has made signing wingers a priority for the summer, after agreeing to remain in charge at Elland Road for another season.

Costa joined Wolves for a then club-record fee of £13million from Benfica in January 2017 and went on to score five goals and register six assists the following season as Wolves won the Championship title.

The 25-year-old did not make as much of an impact as he would have hoped last season, but was still an important player and started 16 matches in the Premier League, as Wolves finished seventh in the table.

Former Leeds midfielder Prutton believes Costa would be a superb signing for the Whites.

"With what has happened with Wolves and how they have evolved, they are looking at players from all over the planet and very high-quality players so maybe someone like Costa could become available for Leeds," Prutton wrote in his column for The Yorkshire Post.

"With the kind of pace that he plays at and his ability on the ball, he would be fantastic.

"And if you look at all the players Wolves have brought in, they are pretty tough.

"They are not lads who have just come in with wonderful ball skills and footwork and flair players, they can get stuck in as well and they are not scared about getting hurt and you have got to look at that as another string to his bow.

But Costa would also bring that extra bit of flair and pace and he would give Leeds another option though of course it’s also about balancing the books."

The Verdict

I couldn't agree more with Prutton here. Costa is a fantastic player and he'd be an excellent signing for the Whites on loan.

He's a skilful and exciting player and would suit Bielsa's fast-paced attacking football perfectly. He already has plenty of Championship experience and should be able to make an instant impact at Elland Road.

Wolves have got some quality players and will be looking to make more signings over the summer, so Costa could see himself fall further down the pecking order at Moulinex and could be open to a move to Leeds.
