Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton has delivered his verdict on Blackburn’s clash against Hull City at Ewood Park, suggesting that Rovers could be set to edge the encounter and take all three points.

Rovers head into the game looking to recover from their 1-0 defeat against promotion chasing Fulham on Saturday, which saw them beaten at Ewood Park for only the third time this season in the league and the first time in their last ten matches in the Championship on home soil.

The defeat leaves Blackburn in 12th place in the Championship table heading into the fixture, but they could still potentially mount a push for the play-offs this season considering they are currently only six points adrift of 6th placed Preston North End.

Blackburn were unbeaten in their previous four Championship matches before their defeat against Fulham on Saturday, which suggests that a victory against Hull could see them get back on track and restore some confidence that they could make a late push for the top six this campaign.

However, Rovers are currently suffering something of an injury crisis to their most creative midfield players, with both Bradley Dack and Lewis Holtby out with long-term injuries and also seeing Joe Rankin-Costello join Joe Rothwell on the treatment table following their defeat against Fulham.

Hull City meanwhile, head into the game looking to build on their 1-1 draw at Reading on Saturday, which did at least see the Tigers end a run of four successive Championship defeats, with Grant McCann looking to get his side back on track.

The Tigers showed some fighting spirit in coming from a goal behind to claim a point at Reading, as they continue to search for a way to pick up points on a regular basis without both Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen in their side.

Hull have not managed to secure a win in the league since they won 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday on New Years Day, but were they to manage to end that run against Blackburn they would move themselves to within a point of Rovers in the Championship table.

In his latest EFL predictions for Sky Sports, Prutton suggested that Rovers could edge the contest against Hull and believes Blackburn could run out 2-1 winners, writing: "Losing Bradley Dack to long-term injury really does seem to have put Rovers' play-off hunt in jeopardy recently. Rovers' star man has been out since before Christmas and they've won just two of the eight games that have followed.

"Hull's campaign appears to be heading in the same direction after they lost not only Kamil Grosicki but Jarrod Bowen too on Deadline Day. They secured their first point since the double departure against Reading, but I don't think they'll have enough here."

The Verdict:

You can see why Prutton believes it is likely to be a tight contest at Ewood Park that could be separated by just the odd goal, given both sides are not exactly prolific in front of goal and are having to go into matches without players who were previously their most reliable creators.

Prutton, though, clearly feels that Blackburn’s previous strong home record before their defeat against Fulham last time out, could potentially prove to be the deciding factor between the two sides in this clash, and that could very well prove to be the case.

However, there is an argument that Hull could perform slightly better on their travels over the net few weeks and months, given their will be less expectations on them to pick up the three points away from home and without both Grosicki and Bowen they will need to find a different way of edging out their opponents.

A win for Rovers would see them potentially gain some more ground on the top-six if other results were to go their way, while another defeat would leave Hull looking over their shoulders, although they would still have a reasonably comfortable cushion over the teams fighting against relegation.
