Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton has backed the Whites for promotion - although he feels Brentford are capable of winning their remaining six games.

The Bees have won four successive games to put them within six points of Leeds, with Marcelo Bielsa's men having failed to win two of their three fixtures since the restart.

Whilst the Yorkshire outfit still have a commanding lead, there won't be anyone at Elland Road getting carried away after the way the side fell apart last season.

And, writing in his regular Yorkshire Evening Post column, Prutton explained how Brentford are a major threat to both Leeds and West Brom who are a point behind in second.

"If there is to be somebody to break into the top two between now and the end of the season, then it feels like Brentford could be the ones to do it.

"The Bees will have won 10 games in a row if they take maximum points between now and the end of the season and that would be a phenomenal run. It would take some doing but it’s not completely beyond the realms of possibility."

The verdict

You can imagine that all Leeds and Albion fans will be nervously looking over their shoulder because not only are Brentford flying right now, but they also have the quality to sustain it.

Despite that, it's extremely rare for a side to win ten games in a row in the Championship, which the Bees are surely going to need to do to win automatic promotion, so there should be no panicking at Elland Road just yet.

They are in the position everyone wants to be in and it's about taking it one game at a time - starting at Blackburn this afternoon.
