The Stadium of Light is the venue for Luton Town’s trip to face Sunderland tomorrow afternoon.

It is a clash at the top of the table between the two sides gunning for a place back in next season’s Championship.

The two teams are separated by just one point going into Saturday’s game, with both sides aiming for a maximum haul of points to underline their promotion credentials.

Luton will do so without former manager Nathan Jones who left to join Stoke City during the week, but they remain the form side in League One, unbeaten in their last six matches.

The Hatters are second in the division on 52 points, one ahead of their opponents at the weekend.

Jack Ross’ men, meanwhile, have a game in hand over their promotion rivals and know that a win tomorrow could help them on their way to extending a lead in second place, should they win their game in hand, too.

The Black Cats are unbeaten in four and have lost just once in their last six games heading into this weekend’s epic fixture.

Ahead of the game, Sky Sports enlisted the help of pundit David Prutton to cast his eye over this particular fixture.

The EFL presenter said: “This is a big game in Sky Bet League One as third hosts second at the Stadium of Light, although the context of it has changed completely since the shock departure of Luton boss Nathan Jones to Stoke in midweek.

“Jones had done a brilliant job there, and they haven't lost since mid-October.

“If he was still in the dugout, I may have fancied a different result, but without him there, I can only see a Sunderland win, 2-1.”

The verdict

The biggest game in league one this season arguably for both sides with the positions in the league.

This game is one that comes at a difficult time for Luton fans after their manager Nathan Jones left to head to Stoke City just days before the vital clash at the top of the third tier.

I don’t think it will disrupt their preparations too much as there would have been a plan in place.

Sunderland, meanwhile, are at home and in front of a bumper crowd, could edge it.

I think Luton have a point to prove and could well upset the apple cart at the Stadium of Light tomorrow.
