Bolton Wanderers striker Daryl Murphy says the rest of League One should be sitting up and taking notice of his side following their recent resurgence.

Murphy scored a 93rd-minute winner for Wanderers just minutes after missing a penalty to secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over MK Dons, meaning it is now three wins on the spin for Keith Hill's side in the league.

That result against the Dons has now taken Bolton to positive points, following a 12 point deduction at the start of the campaign for entering administration earlier in the year, and although they are still rooted to the foot of the third-tier table, Murphy believes that other sides ought to be paying attention to the Trotters.

Speaking to The Bolton News about his side's recent form, Murphy claimed: “If I was a team above us I’d definitely be looking at us differently now.

“It’s momentum. I think the teams above us are going to take notice and not be as cushy as they were."

Reflecting on the changes in the club's fortunes since his arrival from Nottingham Forest at the end of the summer transfer window, Murphy continued: “We were a long way away from them at the start of the season and we’re clawing it back with games in hand as well. We just need to keep doing what we’re doing. We won’t stop.

“Like I said when I came in, it’s the position we’re in, the cards we’ve been dealt. The best we can do is win games as we’re doing at the moment and hopefully keep climbing.”

That recent run of form has also come against a backdrop of injuries suffered by a number of the club's key players, something which Murphy believes offers yet more scope for optimism for Wanderers, as he added: “What you’ve got to remember is that we’ve still got some very good players injured as well, so if we get a fully-fit squad then the gaffer has a big headache picking the team.

“At the minute we’re doing well, so whoever comes back in will just boost us and give us a bit more strength in depth. Hopefully that will help us climb the league.”

Bolton are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they make the short trip to the Wham Stadium to take on Accrington Stanley.

The Verdict

I fully agree with Murphy here.

When you consider the circumstances they are currently playing in, it is hard not to be impressed with the way that Bolton continue to pick up results at the minute.

Indeed, when you look at some of the sides Bolton have already taken points off this season, such as Sunderland, Blackpool and Fleetwood, there seems to be no reason why they cannot be a match for anybody in this division right now.

It will therefore be interesting to see how they cope if, as Murphy predicts, teams do start to pay more attention to them and up their game as a result from here on in.
