West Bromwich Albion target Daryl Dike has taken to Instagram to congratulate Alex Mowatt on his goal and performance in the Baggies’ 4-0 win against Sheffield United last night.
The 26-year-old grabbed Valerien Ismael’s third goal of the game after being played in by Karlan Grant, slotting in calmly past Michael Verrips on the edge of the six-yard box to secure a well-earned three points.
But despite their lightning start and Callum Robinson’s impressive form, scoring in each of their three Championship games so far this season, they are in need of a striker after utilising winger Matt Phillips as a centre-forward in pre-season and Daryl Dike is one name who is reported to be on the Baggies’ radar.

The United States international was linked with the recently-relegated Championship side early on in the summer even before Ismael was appointed as manager, with the duo and Alex Mowatt spending the second half of last season together at Barnsley.
And their interest in the 21-year-old was reaffirmed last week by the Express and Star, along with Manchester City teenager Rory Delap, although a loan move for the latter has been all but ruled out by the Citizens’ youth coach Brian Barry-Murphy.
This could make Dike West Brom’s top target now and with the forward commenting “Legendddd👏👏” on Mowatt’s Instagram post this afternoon, captioned “Big win last night, buzzing to get my first goal for WBA”, four Baggies fans have already responded asking if he’s coming to West Brom and encouraging him to come to The Hawthorns.

Daryl Dike would be an excellent addition for West Brom, with Ismael already getting to know him during their time together and the striker thriving in the Frenchman’s system, scoring nine goals in 19 Championship appearances last season.
This is an excellent achievement and with the funds generated from the sale of Matheus Pereira, they could potentially submit a tempting offer to Orlando City, whether they pursue a permanent deal or just a temporary agreement.
Ex-West Brom man Carlton Palmer believes their ability to chase Dike will depend on the departure of Sam Johnstone, because the keeper could free up a sizeable sum of money depending on how much West Brom officials hold out for during the rest of the window.
However, the club have recently opened contract negotiations with the 28-year-old and with West Ham and Arsenal clinching their goalkeeping targets in Alphonse Areola and Aaron Ramsdale, a move away this summer seems unlikely for the shot-stopper now, with Manchester United not following up on their initial interest.
If Palmer is right, we may not see Dike arrive in the West Midlands this summer – but it’s great to see him and Mowatt still in contact and just shows how much respect the latter commended at Oakwell as Barnsley’s former captain.
